"Turning Worries Into Prayers"

"No troubles distress the mind and wear upon the nerves like borrowed troubles." This is a quote from Billy Grahamメs Devotional, Hope For Each Day. (I highly recommend this devotional.) Dr. Grahamメs comment was in reference to the subject of worrying. His point was that "worrying about what might happen makes even the smallest trouble seem huge." "Borrowing troubles", he says, doesn't speak well of our faith in the Lord or our trust in His Word. I totally agree!

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, challenges us to turn loose of our worries and grab hold of Godメs heart through prayer. He writes in Philippians 4:6-7, "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. If you do this, you will experience Godメs peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand."

It seems impossible to never have to worry, whether it be at work, home or anywhere else, but according to this scripture passage, if we turn our worries into prayers, we don't have to be concerned about what might happen. And by praying more and worrying less, we are assured that God's peace will be ours to enjoy.

What about you? Are you worried about something unnecessarily so? Anticipating troubles that may never happen can rob us of our joy and peace. Remember, as the songwriter says, "Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer."

Prayerfully Yours,

Pastor David
