If You Have Faith!

"How many times have I failed thee? Let me count the ways." This is the particular thought on my mind right now. Without a doubt we are all guilty of underestimating the power of God. We want to believe that our trust in the Lord is stronger than it is sometimes, do we not? However, let this crisis or that one come knocking on our door and we tuck our tails and run in the opposite direction. (Notice I used the first person pronoun, "we." It's because I, too, underestimate God's abilities to meet my needs or to do the impossible, if necessary.)

Yes, we are tempted to think of ourselves as being different from those early disciples, but in reality, our lack of faith is much the same as was theirs. More than once, Peter, James and John, along with the rest of the original twelve, failed God with their faith. One particular occasion was when a concerned father brought his sick son to these same disciples to seek their help. Jesus rebuked them of their unbelief, saying, "O unbelieving and perverse generation... how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me." Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Notice Jesus' response, "if you have faith as small as a mustard seed." Jesus tells his disciples that what they need is not a giant-size faith, but a small amount of faith - faith that is created out of a close, personal relationship with the Lord, and that expects Him to work. To be sure it hurt Jesus to know that His chosen ones were weak when it came to their trust of Him and His powers. And without a doubt, He is just as disappointed when we waiver in our unbelief.

I wonder how many miracles have been forfeited because of our lack of trust? Let's quit doubting and start trusting God to move those mountains that only He can. And trust me, He will, if only we have faith! (Read Matthew 17:14-21)

With Love, From and For Jesus,

Pastor David
