PRAYER: The Christian's Vital Breath!

Are you a "Prayer Warrior" or are you willing to become one, for the Lord and His Church at Trinity? To be sure, we as Christians don't have a choice in the matter, if we really want to have a close, personal relationship with God. Make no mistake about it, prayer is a must when it comes to communicating to our Heavenly Father. Truthfully,, how could we sustain a healthy relationship with the Lord without prayer?

Yes, prayer is essential to the Christian life! Prayer is the bridge that transports us from earth to heaven. It is means of grace by which we tap into God's infinite power. It is the key that unlocks the door to God's storehouse of blessings. It is the Christian's "vital breath, their native air and their soul's sincere desire," as James Montgomery once wrote in a song.

Understanding this as we should, then we must also understand Jack Taylor's perspective on prayer, which states: "No believer's spiritual life will ever rise above the level of his (or her) praying. No church's ultimate effectiveness will rise to stay above the level of its corporate prayer life---the praying of its members. No church's corporate prayer life will be greater than the personal prayer lives of those who make up its constituency. And no part of the church's ministry will rise above the level of its prayer ministry." (p. 10 of Prayer Seminar by Dr. J. Gordon Henry)

According to The American Heritage Dictionary, a warrior is "one who is engaged or experienced in battle." Therefore, not only is prayer work, it is also war. But be that as it may, we none can afford to neglect it, that is, if we expect to defeat our enemy the Devil. Our lives and the lives of others are dependent upon prayer. It is our lifeline to heaven and vital to our defense against Satan. (Read Ephesians 6:1-10.)

As we prepare to recommit ourselves to being the best Christian stewards on November 12, let us covenant together to be "Prayer Warriors", both for God's glory and the good of Trinity UMC, our beloved church. In the meantime, come join one of the Prayer Groups that meets on Monday evenings at 7 PM and Thursday mornings at 7 AM, as we take advantage of this "vital breath and native air."

With Love From JESUS,

Pastor David
